Our Work

Africa Lead II is guided by the understanding that better prioritized, designed, delivered and measured agriculture policies, programs and enterprises in Africa will lead to greater agricultural productivity and food security. Building on the Champions for Change leadership network— agriculture change agents, increasingly recognized within Africa, who have the skills, the breadth of view and the motivation to initiate transformation— Africa Lead II will focus on the institutions in which these Champions work to bring about the improvements in capacity to generate maximum effectiveness. Serving as a catalyst and connector for learning and innovations in individual leadership behavior, institutional performance and the policy process, Africa Lead II works across the following three technical areas:

1. Improve institutional capacity

Services:

  • Institutional assessments
  • Institutional and human resource strengthening
  • Capacity development plans
  • Leadership and management training (Champions for Change)
  • Specialized technical training (short courses)
  • Knowledge Management, Monitoring and Evaluation tools and processes
  • Internships and fellowships

Results: institutions aligned with the goals of FTF, CAADP and the New Alliance demonstrate greater capacity to develop, lead and monitor progress towards agricultural transformation.

2. Strengthen management of policy-change and alignment processes

Services:

  • Institutional Architecture Policy Assessments
  • Evidenced-based policy analysis (SAKSS nodes)
  • Policy process training (Mutual Accountability Framework, Joint Sector Review)

Results: countries have the ability to assess their institutional architecture and policy processes and systems to make necessary policy adjustments to strengthen the agriculture industry and ensure greater food security.

3. Enhance capacity and engagement of NSAs, including the private sector

Services:

  • Leadership and management capacity building
  • Technical training
  • Facilitation of roundtables, workshops and networking events
  • Advocacy and coalition building training

Results: non-state actors and private sector engaged in realizing the goals of FTF, CAADP and the New Alliance have greater ability to participate in effective agricultural transformation programs with the government.
